Academic Apparel Industries (AAI) was established in 1990, in Durban, by Logan Thavarajoo as a supplier of academic, legal and clerical wear. Initially the company was regionally focused (Durban and environs) but due to demand, was soon covering the whole of South Africa as well as areas within Africa.
The demand for a quality graduation service was so great initially that it was at times difficult to satisfy all of our customers’ needs. It bears testimony to the commitment of our staff that the business was able to grow so rapidly while still maintaining our personalized service and superb garment quality. Our garments are known throughout South Africa for their attention to fine detail that is a direct result of the high proportion of handwork used in our manufacturing process.
AAI is rated as one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of academic, clerical and legal attire in South Africa. AAI is the official academic wear supplier to a host of tertiary institutions in South Africa.
AAI is still owned and managed by the Thavarajoo family, which facilitates a truly personal approach to our customers and a binding commitment from our management team in terms of guaranteeing customer satisfaction.
