Life on the Swartvlei Lagoon
Swartvlei Lagoon stretches over 10.73 kilometres. It is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. The weather is mild, with temperatures ranging between 19°C in July and 27.4°C in February. The lodge offers complimentary kayaks, canoes and the skipper of our Lady Giselle Pontoon Boat takes guests out on the lagoon to fish.
Small buck, dassies and bush pigs abound and birdwatchers can look forward to seeing sun birds, herons, the African Fish Eagle and Pied Kingfishers.
Guests can take to the lagoon on kite surf, sail, wake board and waterski or explore the region on the hotel’s mountain bikes.
Sedgefield & The Garden Route
The picturesque town of Sedgefield is 8 kilometres from Lakeside Lodge. It is Africa’s first official slow town and when you go there you will understand why. The town prides itself on its gentle pace of life. Sedgies call it the ‘tortoise pace’ and say it is good for one’s blood pressure. Sedgefield has art galleries, coffee shops and a wonderful Saturday farmers’ market. Beautiful towns abound in this part of the country. There is Great Brak, Little Brak, Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay, Buffels Bay and Knysna, to name just a few.
