Firstly when we picked up the car at the Umhlanga Avis branch they apparently didn't have the car we booked online so they gave us which looked like one of their oldest automatic Corollas available - we refused to take the car as this was not what we, as Avis Prefered members booked. After talking to someone else (not the lady that checked us in) we ended up with a 1.6 Huyndai Accent. No one inspected the car and we didn't think to check the car either as they just point you to a parking spot and tell you to take the car. So in good faith you get in a car and drive off. Upon returning the clean car with a fuel tank as is standard procedure in most places two "car inspectors" pointed out a scratch on the front left below part of the plastic fender of the car. I was really surprised as I know for a fact I never drove off road or anywhere which could have scratched the car like that. A female "inspector" assured us that this might already be marked on a previous paper and she has to check and will phone us at a later stage. I should have know this was going to become an issue. As expected - Avis is pointing the finger at us. My advice - DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS! There are a variety a car rental services at the airport - in the near future I will visit again and my business from abroad will surely not go to AVIS. Check your own car before driving out the parking space and demand someone from their office walk with you to check the car with you. I belief this isn't the first time nor the last that customers will be treated this way! Otherwise - to prevent any of this. Skip AVIS and use Budget or Hertz.
