Engel&Völkers Stellenbosch property specialist intern, Jeanette Cilliers, deliberately mislead a flat owner into believing that she has found buyers for a flat that is in the market but that the buyers are only interested in the property if the owner did not renew the rental contract with the current tenant (renting from another agency) because the potential buyer wanted to occupy the property. Only after the owner had fulfilled her request did her true intentions emerge which was to vacate the current tenant in order to procure the rental listing for herself. Whether there really was an interested buyer is unknown, only that what she presented as an interested buyer turned out to be just another tenant. Another estate agent has described this as “the oldest trick in the book”. Beware of this practice and Jeanette Cilliers.
